Yellow Snapper

Another FOTW exclusive for you here. We were lucky to get a sneak preview of John West's lasestt market breaking product. Tinned yellow snapper.

Red Sea Walker

This chap was seen dragging himself across a sand bottom recently.
No wonder he looks so miserable.

Bannerfish Kindergarden

The black blobs in the shiney stuff on the top of this coral would appear to be eggs that these two Bannerfish are guarded.

Tuesday, May 5

Loggerhead Turtle

If you go to Hurghada make sure you dive Careless reef. A top dive. Perhaps you need to be a bit lucky with the weather conditions but once you are down its heaving with wild life.
Careless consists of two large pinnacles edged with a plateau around 18 m deep over which is spread a stunning coral garden. This in turn is edged by a drop off in to the deep blue. Situated further away from the coast it perhaps gets a fewer visitors than some of the other reefs. Excellent news that. So make the effort, get out there and get down. Careless was subject to a clean up operation when it became infected with Crown of Thorns. Thanks to all of those who helped in making careless an excellent dive.

Toxic Leather Sea Urchin

As we creep through the current credit crunch, what with all its toxic assets and plainly toxic bankers who hopefully never get another job (although potato picking in Lincolnshire might be a possibility for some of the the younger ones) we find nature has also created its on toxins. The toxic leather sea urchin was spotted (with at least 1500 others I might add) creeping up a reef wall on a super night dive. I suspect the toxic bankers will be creeping around in the dark too and it would not upset me if there were 1500 of them either.

Whitespotted Pufferfish

Thankfully our yellow streak has come to and. Just to convince you here a lovely shot of a white spotted pufferfish.

Tuesday, April 14

Yellow Goatfish

Really need a video to do justice to the barbles on these two goatfish as there explore the sandy bottom as they swam pasted.

Tuesday, April 7

Yellow Tailed Barracuda

These yellow beauties were photographed by FOTW divers on the Belinda, a curious little wreck in 6 metres of water just of the Hurghada coast. Although a wreck its the wild life that did this one for me. Visibility was a kin to conditions normally experienced in the Tyne rather than the Rea Sea, but the abundance of creatures on this ex dive boat made this a great dive. I nearly didn't dive it but after a hour examining every nook and cranny I am glad I did.

Monday, March 30

Yellowtail Snappers

The yellow streak continues with these goatfish, yellow of course.

Sunday, March 22

Yellow headed Moray

These two yellow headed moray spotted on a couple of Hurghada reefs start a Fish of the Week special feature. We are going to be concentrating on the colour yellow for the next few pictures so send us your yellow fish for consideration on FOTW's yellow streak.

Lizard fish

Easy to photograph as they seem reluctant to move even when you poke a camera in their gills.

Thursday, February 26

Free Swimming Giant Moray

This beauty swam up towards us from the deep. Fortunately he had his sights on other things but in doing so gave us a spectacular view

Thursday, February 19

Black and White Spotted Snapper

A new fish for FOTW. This one is sporting the juvenile livery that has given the fish its name. The adults are not spotty.

Thursday, February 12

Emperor Angelfish

The name sake of our favourite dive operator in the Red Sea. You could do a lot worst than fix your next dive trip with Emperor Divers.

Thursday, February 5

Red Sea Anenomefish

As usual these anenome fish were agressively prtoecting their patch of anenome.

Thursday, January 29

Blue Spotted Eagle Rays

Shark Food. Fortunately for these two there were no signs of sharks in Hurghada the week we were there!

Thursday, January 22

Black Spotted Sweetlips

My personal favourite. Timid and shy rarely do you get a good look at this fish. These two were holed up for a clean at this cleaning station. No sign of the cleaner wrasses though.

Thursday, January 15

Juvenile Cat Fish

This shoal of juvenile catfish were spotted under the wreck of the Belinda in Hurghada harbour.
Not a particularly special wreck but a fantastic dive for taking your time and spotting a myriad of wildlife.

Friday, January 9

FOTW go head to head with the Clown Sand Wrasse

Another FOTW exclusive! Revolutionatry techniques are being employed by FOTW diver Pete to further understand the Clown Sand Wrasse. Pete seen here engaging via telekenesis with a adult female will be presenting his extraordinary findings at a Wrasse seminar to be held next year at the Peanut lovers Camel bar (where else) in Sharm.

Friday, January 2

Banded Boxer Shrimp

A clutch of bnaded boxer shrimps seen here in a barrel coral on wribble reef, Grenada. Probably a relation to Bernie.
