As a new feature Fishoftheweek are now running a series of reports on top hotels in top dive resorts.. Our first report is on the La Perla in Hurghada. Unlike many hotels in Hurghada it is actually finished. This is its one and only plus point other than the fact that we paid the princely sum of £33 for the week. Given this, one might expect a less than perfect hotel experience and this is exactly what we actually got. First off, the first night was spent in the hotel next door because they had no rooms. As a concession we received a complimentary dinner which was pretty poor. Once we got a room and having fixed the towel rail, loo roll holder, unplugged all of the electrical equipment in the room as they were connected to a single power outlet via an adaptor which had itself into a round ball of molten plastic, we settled in for a relaxing stay.
The staff were generally friendly and eager to help although not very good at it. The breakfast buffet was identical seven days in a row, the coffee was drinkable but only with a clothes peg on your nose.
Nevertheless as harden divers we enjoyed our stay. The air conditioning system worked fine and we optimised the enjoyment of our stay by spending as much time as possible away from the La Perla. If you are looking for some where to simply put your head down between dives it is worth considering La Perla. Otherwise look elsewhere.
It is also worth noting that the hotel where James Bond finally ends up in his latest adventure Quantum of Solace is also called the La Perla. In the movie the hotel is blown up in the process of getting all of hte badies.. On reflection not a bad idea really. Wish I had thought of that when I was out in Hurghada.
